Green Design:Jan.2010

Description:
“Green Design” is a movement to encourages using sustainable design products through utilizing recycled, renewable and environmentally friendly materials. It is a typographic experiment articulating the meaning of “Green Design” by using the letter forms, GREEN.
I invited the numerous tree forms by using Binary Tree Algorithm on the dull, plain and inanimate outline of the letter forms. I added green color palettes to animate the tree forms graphically and reminded of the earth. I symbolized the tree forms as environmentally friendly materials and added the colors graphically reflecting to the Earth. Through this process, the inanimate letter forms, GREEN, is visually transformed to a meaningful form to deliver a visual message about “Green Design.”
It also shows an alternative way of visual creativities by using the codes rather than traditional hand drawings. It addresses how the uninspiring letter forms, GREEN, can be renewed and be evolved to the innovated letter forms through using the codings. I referenced Binary Tree Algorithm(data structure in computer science composing of parent nodes, or leaves,) Geomerative Library and Caligraft(http://www.caligraft.com,) by Richard Marxer, and the font: Arial, in Processing, by Casey Reas and Ben Fry.
Note:
My work, GREEN, was featured as one of my works for my article in Letter Arts Review
